A Donor Advised Fund runs much like a Named Endowment, but an individual or group assists in directing the distribution of the funds annually. Typically the family establishes an Advisory Committee and this committee recommend the ministries supported by the fund. Fifty percent must go to United Methodist-related ministries. If the Advisory Committee ceases to exist, the Foundation will endeavor to distribute the funds to the ministries or those like those that had been selected in the past.
A donor makes an irrevocable contribution to establish a Donor Advised Fund and thereafter has rights to advise on the distribution of the grants from that fund. You take an immediate tax deduction for your contribution. You recommend annual grants to charities, churches, or ministries.
